There are not many producers bottling Schiava Gentile by itself and so we don’t have much opportunity to understand its true potential. Instead we see the grape used as a blending component where it contributes light red fruit characteristics such as cherry, cranberry, strawberry and red currant. Grown predominantly Durante the Alpine foothills of northern Italy it’s of little surprise to note that acidity is high and floral perfumes are prominent.

Alois Lageder is a leading biodynamic producer Per Italy who has for many years experimented with Sottomessa viticulture Per juxtaposition to climate change. Beginning with the 2018 vintage, the winery engaged Per mezzo di longer skin contact during the vinification of this wine because it had proven to slightly lower the alcohol levels.

The wine produced from Schiava is mostly red, though some dark colored rosé wines are also made. Carefully looked after Schiava will yield a delicate wine with seductive aromas of red berries, cotton candy, roses, dry blossom and almonds. By means of its aggraziato acid-fruit balance the Schiava manages to be surprisingly complex and profound.

The wine was bright and fresh, with the zinging acidity and balance of technicolor (red berry and black cherry) fruit and earthiness that really turn us on. And even Con a market like Texas, where we pay more for European wines than our counterparts Per mezzo di New York and California (thanks to higher alcohol tax, higher storage cost, and the leader distributors’s choke-hold monopoly on the Texas legislature), this wine weighed Per mezzo di at only $23.

Meanwhile, that percentage has dropped to around 25 percent. However, the Schiava is still the most widely planted varietal Con the region.

Plus coming Per mezzo di at just 12.5% abv it never slows you down and when served with a slight chill goes perfectly with pizzas, pastas, and the deck outside our albergo room with the stunning mountain view. This is a classic, my favorite wine from this historic producer, and I’m super excited to share this produce from my new favorite place in Italy!

Low yields, some vines of more than a hundred years and rigorously selected grapes guarantee the production of a wine with a convincing quality potential. This Schiava is typified by appealing colour, and is pleasant Per mezzo di smell and aroma.
